These works were painted on the streets of Oakland in the past two years. The tapestry is based on an earlier painting. It was woven in Belgium using a digital process developed by Magnolia Editions of Oakland.
Holdsworth has been painting on the streets of Oakland since 1976. More recently he has painted in San Francisco and Los Angeles as well as Nicaragua, Italy, France, Mexico and Cuba. A native of the United Kingdom, Holdsworth studied painting in Florence, Italy, Bournemouth College of Art, England, and at the San Francisco Art Institute. He has shown at the San Diego Museum, the Fresno Museum and the Oakland Museum of California as well as galleries statewide. He currently represents himself out of his studio in West Oakland, which is open the Last Sunday of every month, noon to 5pm. He teaches evening painting classes in his studio, and leads painting expeditions to towns and rural communities around Lake Patzcuaro in Michoacan, Mexico. |
